Dear Heavenly Father,

Draw me close to You and protect me.  I feel the waves of depression sweeping over me.  Lord, I can handle this only with Your help.  You give the gift of sound mind and a merry heart.  I need both. 

The Bible says I should lift my eyes to the hills from whence comes my help.  But when depression weighs heavy on me, I have no strength.  David called you "the llifter of [his] head."  I can envision a loving father with his fingetips lifting a child's face up so he can speak to him.  The child's eyes are downcast, but the father's smile reassures him.

Lift my chin up in Your hand, Lord.  Help me to see Your face and know You care for me and will help me.  Strengthen my faith in You.  Strengthen my resolve when the fog and darkness threaten to overwhelm me.  Help me to smile again, and renew my hope.  Restore laughter and joy to my life.

Thank You for Your promise to be with me always.  What other friend cares so much for me, Lord?
